Merger proposal Meal delivery service→Food delivery (2021)

I propose to merge Meal delivery service into Food delivery. I think that the content in this article can easily be explained in the context of Food delivery, and the Food delivery article is of a reasonable size that the merging of Meal delivery service will not cause any problems as far as article size is concerned. In fact there is already a section there (Food delivery#Meal delivery) on the topic that is larger than this stub. ––FORMALDUDE(talk) 22:35, 20 July 2021 (UTC)
- Support merge and redirect, for the reasons outlined above. Fairly straightforward. But an even bigger issue is how to better integrate Food delivery and Online food ordering. I think the latter should be the main article, and the sections should describe the various ordering models, delineated by commercial vs. consumer, but include the delivery as part of the ordering model. After all, you can't have a delivery without ordering, but you can always order and pick up to go, without delivery. And there's already an entire section in the online food ordering article Online food ordering#Service that's really just about delivery. So there's info that can be consolidated. And we'd have to contrast the concept of random "ad hoc" food ordering (pizza, etc.) versus one time subscription services such as meal kits or monthly gift boxes such as the "of-the-month" type clubs, where you order once and then get regular deliveries as a subscription. - Thanks for weighing in, @Timtempleton. I think the titles of the articles are the main thing to consider. The former emphasizes delivery while the latter emphasizes online ordering. Yes it's true you can't have food delivered without ordering, but you can have food delivered without online ordering (for example, if you place a phone call). So I think it's probably okay to keep Food delivery and Online food ordering as separate articles. It would be a good idea to make them each more concise by consolidating applicable sections, like moving Online food ordering#Service to Food delivery and Food_delivery#Online_delivery_platforms to Online food ordering. ––FORMALDUDE(talk) 00:18, 21 July 2021 (UTC)

Belbury - this is regarding paragraph removed recently. Since there is Grocery delivery section right below the providers across continents, I have added it. Do you think whats been added is still irrelevant there?? Then can you suggest where can I add these missing redlinks on this grocery delivery services article page? Thank you. This article makes over-broad claims; one is certainly incorrect, others likely so
[edit]Quote from the article: "In the United States, the first restaurant food delivery service in the world began in 1995 with World Wide Waiter" In the 1980s there was at least one restaurant delivery service operating in north London that would deliver meals from any one of a half dozen restaurants in the area. They distributed menus through a leafletting campaign, and took orders from a common phone number. You could order drinks and cigarettes with your food as well. I'd be really surprised if it was the first such service, the idea of having poeple bring you food probably goes back pretty far . . . . I find it equally hard to beleive the claim under 'Meal Delivery' that in the entire sweep of global history no-one ever delivered meals for a fee until the Koreans came up with it in the 18th century. 67.191.138.18 (talk) 23:14, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
