I have a book that calls these elastomers FPM under ISO and FKM under ASTM. Is it universally known as FKM under both?

(I'm referring to the book Fluid Sealing Technology by Muller and Nau, 1998.)

AMong the industry, it's pretty much universally referred to as FKM for relatively low levels of halogen content, FFKM for higher levels (Perfluoro-eloastomers).

Also, I'd say that the article has been influenced by someone from DuPont. The trade name Tecnoflon by Solvay Solexis is referenced, but the trade name 'Viton' of DuPont is not. Viton is a commercial trade name, though it appears to be in danger of becoming a generic, like 'Biro' or 'Nylon'

(The first comment was mine; I just didn't bother to sign in at work.) Having worked as a mechanical engineer for a hydraulic seal distributor for just over a year now, I can definitely say that I've NEVER heard anyone call it FPM. Everyone pretty-much says Viton; we probably only list it as FKM in our catalog to avoid a lawsuit. kevinthenerd (talk) 12:14, 29 May 2009 (UTC)
