Floyd Perry Baker is listed frequently in current and past lists of early notable Kansas settlers. He participated in the first legistature, co-authored the first compilation of Kansas laws and was a founding/charter member of several Kansas organizations relating to agriculture, history and libraries. More Background Needed

More background is needed on F.P. Baker's legislative record particularly as he served during a very turbulent time when pro-slavery interests were trying to push the state to join the Union as a slavery state. Most likely Floyd opposed this. He was also very active in civic affairs in Topeka. More information on his contributions here is needed particularly with regard to his being a founding member of the Kansas Agricultural Society, a newspaper society, the Historical Society and some involvement with libraries.Mstomasik (talk) 17:00, 14 January 2016 (UTC)

Conflicting Information

Around 1848 to 1853 Floyd Perry Baker moved his family from New York State to Wisconsin then to the Sandwich Islands (Hawaii). It is possible, but unclear, whether between Wisconsin and Hawaii he lived in San Francisco for a short time. One sensible theory is that he moved to San Francisco from Wisconsin, leaving his family behind. While in San Francisco he learned of an opportunity in Hawaii, returned to Wisconsin and traveled from there with them to Hawaii.
