Comment, if moved, the article currently titled Earinus should be moved to Earinus (wasp), which is consistent with the disambiguating term used for other articles in Category:Braconidae genera. Plant and animal genera can share a name, and the most common reason for a genus name to be ambiguous is that there is another genus with the same name. (genus) is not a satisfactory disambiguating term. The second most common reason for a genus name to be ambiguous is ambiguity with a term in ancient Latin or Greek, as is the case here. Support 1st Per nom. The 2nd should be moved to Earinus (wasp genus), as (wasp) implies an individual animal, and is therefore highly incorrect, regardless of how often it is used in an incorrect manner. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 19:02, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Zxcvbnm: what do you think about (insect) as a disambiguator? There are only 3 articles on Wikipedia that have something before genus in a disambiguation: Clelia (snake genus), Appendicularia (animal genus) and [Nasturtium (plant genus)]]. There are at least 2828 articles where (genus) is insufficient to disambiguate (there are 1414 pages in Category:Genus disambiguation pages).
When disambiguation is required, most articles on individual animals are disambiguated with a highly specific common name for the species or family: (dog), (orca), (raven), (parrot), (rabbit), (bear), etc. Most articles on genera are disambiguated with a less specific common name for a higher taxonomic rank: (bird), (gastropod), (fungus).
I can see that (wasp) might be taken to refer to an individual animal. I can't see thinking by default that (gastropod) or (fungus) would refer to an individual (what even is an individual fungus?). There are very few articles on individual invertebrates (Category:Individual invertebrates). The two articles on individual gastropods are George (snail) and Jeremy (snail), with a more specific disambiguation than the (gastropod) disambiguation used for genera.
Would using the less specific disambiguation (insect) instead of (wasp) alleviate your concerns that an individual animal is implied? Plantdrew (talk) 20:04, 6 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
I still believe that both (insect) and (wasp) imply an individual animal. Yes, there are problems on a large scale with using these DABs with people assuming otherwise. The only acceptable DAB to me really would be (genus) or (X genus). ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 21:54, 6 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Oppose in part Earinus should be a disambig page. Flavius Earinus is an obscure enough figure that we can't really argue that it's the WP:COMMONNAME for "Earinus" over the wasp, even if the wasp is also obscure. The wasp genus Earinus should be moved to Earinus (genus). Hemiauchenia (talk) 15:05, 3 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
Oppose. The justification given by nom He's probably best known by just his cognomen is glaringly irrelevant. There's another meaning of Earinus, so the question then becomes one of primary topic. No evidence supporting this obscure individual being the PT of Earinus, and it's IMO highly unlikely. Andrewa (talk) 00:30, 6 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
