liquid flatness

The "flatness" of a liquid surface is not dependent on the local curvature of the earth's surface, but upon the distance of the surface from the center of gravity with additional small perturbations due to the earth's rotation, position of the moon, etc. Likewise, the curvature of the earth (barring any local deformations) is dependent upon its distance from the center of gravity (with similar perturbative influences). This should be made clear in the article. The local curvature of the earth and the curvature of a liquid surface are similar because of a similar underlying cause - one is NOT caused by the other. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.202.227.61 (talk) 18:25, 26 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
