The patent shown is misleading, as it is very recent 1986, where Fizeau did live before 1900...
I agree, I think a simpler sketch is needed just showing the main components. The current Patent drawing is a specific application and has lots of superfluous boxex with no meaningful labels (only number idents from the Patent). Vectis Kitsune (talk) 10:32, 1 November 2010 (UTC)

Partial merge of Fizeau–Foucault apparatus
[edit]Various people didn't know the difference between Fizeau and Foucault's speed of light determination and Fizeau's aether-drag experiment. Hence, some movement of text has been necessary:
