Adding some refs
[edit]Well, some is a misnomer, since it's just one. I'll add some more when I dig them up. They're not really refs in the technical sense, more like external sites. It's easy to find lots of DIY articles on this kind of stuff, so I'm trying to keep away from anything blatantly how-to, or anything commercial, like this one, which has good info, but ultimately is a mortgage sales-pitch. - Yeah there's a lot of sales pitches, masquerading as information (same annoying issue I'm having off-wiki on another matter!). In the source that someone just added about flipping, that gives it context but I don't think fixer-upper is related soley to flipping as people may buy fMy storyTell me yours 21:10, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- WP:OR, just my opinion. Someone who flips isn't interested in repairs beyond what's needed for building codes and inspections. They're in for a fast ROI, and probably won't even inhabit the house. A fixer-upper is most likely a long-term investment with the intentions of sole habitation. Now, there is an article at flipping which has a brief discussion of "fix and flip", and while these two aren't exactly in alignment, it makes me wonder: both of these are fairly short articles, I wonder what would be the thoughts of taking some articles like these and merging them into some sort of coherent single real estate investment or some such? I'm not really prepared to initiate such a cause, but maybe I'll try a {{merge}} on flipping...? Yngvarr (c) 23:09, 5 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think the real estate investment idea is a good one. I'd help for certain but cannot spearhead it as I'm not familiar with the subject to do more than write up and source what's found in google and other sources. TRAVELLINGCARIMy storyTell me yours 02:20, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
- I don't get the impulse that some editors have for taking perfectly referenceable narrow topic and merging it into vast abstract general topic that optionally does not exist. We aren't the Macropedia. --Dhartung | Talk 22:41, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
- I think, at least from my end, it comes from the desire to put related topics in an area so a reader won't have to go to five places. This article can't decide if it's talking about how it exists in the media (half of which are about flipping, which isn't necessarily related) or the term. - Is it, though? It's certainly not, ever, used where I live (the UK) and I actually came here to look up what the heck it meant, after a TV character made a glancing reference to one, but I have no idea about anywhere else. 86.129.214.85 (talk) 00:50, 17 May 2012 (UTC)
