Notable firefighters

[edit]

Surely this should only include those with a Wikipedia page otherwise they're not exactly notable? Escaper27 (talk) 18:10, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Yes, that tends to be the rule on most pages. Notability is indicated by having a Wikipedia article, or at least a sub-section of a Wikipedia article.Timothy Titus Talk To TT 19:42, 23 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Change of name from FB to F&R

[edit]

In Australia at least, Fire and Rescue used to be called the Fire Brigade. All of a sudden, the FB in every state seems to have been renamed Fire and Rescue. The old FB has performed the Rescue function for a long time. When did this name change occur? ----MountVic127 (talk) 22:28, 12 April 2021 (UTC)Reply

Firefighter vs firemen vs firewomen

[edit]

I see that there’s a distinction made here:

Male firefighters are sometimes referred to as firemen (and, less commonly, female firefighters as firewomen)

However, the citations listed are a bit… suspect? Firstly, they’re both referring to the same “Peppa Pig incident”.

Secondly, the sources are describing people wildly overreacting to the term “firemen” as inherently sexist. Hardly authoritative sources for what is a linguistic claim.

Meanwhile, when you look at dictionaries like the Merriam-Webster, you can see that fireman is clearly a gender-neutral term. “A member of the fire department” SkylightPenguin (talk) 14:51, 13 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
