Moving from "Fiery Cross Reef" to "Fiery Cross Island"?

Now Fiery Cross "Reef" is a de facto artificial island, with an area of over 200 hectares. (See satellite imagery acquired on Jan 7, 2015 and Jan 28, 2015. ) Is there any reason that this article should not be renamed? Zanetu (talk) 11:37, 7 February 2015 (UTC)

Is there any reason not to - Yes. Its name is Fiery Cross Reef. (Swallow Reef is still Swallow Reef.)

If you can provide a reference from a reliable source saying that it has officially been renamed, then fill your boots. But until then, the place's name is still "Fiery Cross Reef". Pdfpdf (talk) 16:16, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

What do you mean by "officially"? Something from United Nations? A statement from the Chinese government? A statement from the U.S. government? Swallow Reef is another article I would cast doubt over. Just wondering if Wikipedia has any guidelines regarding reef/island renaming. Zanetu (talk) 01:38, 10 February 2015 (UTC)

I doubt that it's known as either of "Yongshu Reef" or "Yongshu Island" by the Chinese. Maybe "Yongshu Dao", or some other name, but ... Pdfpdf (talk) 16:40, 9 February 2015 (UTC)

Umm, I think it can be rephrased as "Yongshu Reef" (永暑礁) and (since 2014) "Yongshu Island" (永暑岛) by the Chinese, as the Chinese government started land reclamation in the latter half of 2014. Zanetu (talk) 01:38, 10 February 2015 (UTC)
