Article name
[edit]I have seen these referred to as fidget tools or simply fidgets but fidget toys gets the most relevant results in a Google search. Ike9898 (talk) 14:06, 15 November 2021 (UTC)
On the name “fidget toys”
[edit]Why aren’t fidget toys in general called “fidget widgets”? I’m not saying we should edit the main page, but it feels like a huge missed opportunity. 122.213.236.124 (talk) 07:57, 14 April 2022 (UTC)
- The talk page is for talking about the writing of the article, not really for discussion of the subject of the article. The article does not currently include the name 'fidget widget' because this term is far less common than 'fidget toy' in written sources, evidenced by the number of search engine results. The article could still include synonym terms, or redirects from those terms to this article could be created. Ike9898 (talk) 16:30, 15 April 2022 (UTC)
- I do think there is an increasing awareness that these can be viewed as tools, and "toy" has connotations that are diminutive and dismissive. No question the term "fidget toy" is dominant, however. That said, "fidget" and "fidgets" are very common terms. This isn't perfect, but I think there is merit to changing this to "fidget" with "fidget toy" redirecting to it?

Fidget toy → Fidget tool – Fidget tools are not considered toys. They are considered tools because they are designed to support focus, sensory regulation, and emotional self-control. 2600:1700:1960:F100:EC97:9892:E26C:9241 (talk) 01:24, 9 August 2025 (UTC)

- Oppose This is an opinion, and a controversial one at that, which shouldn't be in the title. * Pppery * it has begun... 18:15, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose, OP cites no sources to support the proposed title. 162 etc. (talk) 05:31, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
- Oppose, these items are not called tools in written sources or common speech, and our (wikipedia editors) opinions about what they should be called is irrelevant. Ike9898 (talk) 15:22, 11 August 2025 (UTC)
