Article improvement

[edit]

One big issue is to get rd of the dependence on ABB marketing material.

Unlike the quoted marketing material, it appears that they can and are used for AC current as well. It's noteworthy that they work down to DC, but have fast response and so can handle AC as well.

A big question I have is whether an "optical current transformer" is the same thing or not. The terms are mentioned together a lot on google, but it's not completely clear if they're actually synonymous, or if there's some technical distinction. Other terms are "Optical current sensor" and "magneto-optical current sensor" (MOCS).

Note than an optical current transducer appears to be a conventional current transformer operated uninsulated at high voltage, and both reporting via, and powered by, an optical fiber. See p. 132133 of ABB's Instrument Transformers Application Guide.
