– Move to capitalized titles, per MOS:COMMONNAMECAPS. Amazon parrots, per our article - "The genus name is a Latinized version of the name Amazone given to them in the 18th century by the Comte de Buffon, who believed they were native to Amazonian jungles". Therefore, as the name of a geographical area, I think "Amazon" is a proper noun and should thus be capitalized when used in a species name. Note that not all Amazons are found in *the* Amazon, but a lot of them indeed are. Looking back through the talkpage archives of WP:BIRDS, I see that this issue has been raised multiple times (one of those times was by myself) and several people have made similar points to mine above, but nothing ever seems to have been decided and no-one has ever started a move request. • Oppose, my vote is to keep amazon parrots lower case as it is a type of parrot, not a bird with a proper name. Although amazon parrots were named that way because they were originally all thought to be from the Amazon jungle, many species are found beyond there and would look unordinary if Amazon parrots were capitalized. Amazons are parrots and should only be capitalized if it's the first word in a title or the first word in a sentence, as it is now..PVMoutside — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pvmoutside (talk • contribs) 00:39, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
• Oppose, needs evidence from reliable secondary sources. It's not unheard of for something named after a place to be lowercased; see bikini, frankfurter, brie... 162 etc. (talk) 18:28, 18 July 2023 (UTC)
• Oppose not a proper name. We don't capitalize turkey (bird), regardless of the name being derived from that of a country. The same principle applies here. Walt Yoder (talk) 22:27, 20 July 2023 (UTC)

• Oppose. Lots of things that are ultimately eponyms are lower-cased. There is no one-to-one relationship between "has some relationship to a proper name way back when" and "capitalize this".  — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼  06:35, 21 July 2023 (UTC)
