This is a great article. Thanks to the authors. All the guitar articles get flagged with "no references". I have a copy of the book "The Fender Telecaster" (at my storage location), if I can dig it out I'll add the references. Wikipedia is fast becoming the definative reference souce for guitar information. Much of what's here isn't to be easily found in Wikipedia approved reference sources. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.42.220.203 (talk) 19:14, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Wasn't there a Fender Tele Custom from the 60s (before CBS) that was like a more upmarket version of the Telecaster (e.g. ribbed binding like a Les Paul) that featured 2 single coil pickups?
Why not make a section for the 60s telecaster custom?
Claptons Fender Telecaster used early to mid Seventiees for touring and recording
[edit]Eric Clapton Also used a Fender Telecaster in the early to mid seventiees with a Humbucker in the neck. He usually used a 1952 Fender Telecaster for most of the seventiees for recording and live performances with single coils in it given to him by Carl Raddle. He Also used a Fender Telecaster from 1975 Also a single coil guitar for a 2 month tour of Japan in late 1975. 213.89.143.63 (talk) 16:43, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
"Custom Telecaster" vs "Telecaster Custom"
[edit]There is a lot of confusion in the guitar community around the nomenclature between the "Custom Telecaster" and the "Telecaster Custom". The "Custom Telecaster" was the cosmetic upgrade available from 1959-72 with body binding and a rosewood neck, while the "Telecaster Custom" was the 1972-81 instrument with the neck humbucker and large pickguard. I have edited the article to better reflect this difference, as the article mislabeled the original model as the "Telecaster Custom", but it would almost be better if these models had two separate pages. For that matter, it would also be advantageous to create two separate sections on the main Telecaster page as well. Any other thoughts on this? Jerry Is Bored (talk) 05:37, 26 June 2026 (UTC)
- They do seem like different guitar designs to an extent, but Fender itself described them as two iterations of the same model, so I don't think separate articles are warranted. Mbinebri (talk) 19:21, 2 July 2026 (UTC)
