Is this island really called Faore?
[edit]The page on Sikaina islands says:
"The main island at Sikaiana atoll, located at the easternmost corner, is called Sikaiana. The three small islands in the west of the atoll are Tehaolei (north), Matuiloto (west), and Matuavi (south)."
Matuilo redirects to this page. This article currently includes a claim that "Faore is the second in size.", which references a book titled Sailing Directions for the Pacific Islands: Western groups, including the Solomon Islands, printed on 1952.
The abovementioned book says at the linked point that "Faore, the second island in size, lies at the northwestern end of the reef" (emphasis added), which would be Tehaolei, not Matuiloto. Also, on the preceding page the book says "The group consists of five small islands (...) The islands are named Sikaiana, Faore, Manduiloto, Barena, and Matuavi.", suggesting that the atoll should have five islands (?!) and that Faore is a different island than Matuiloto.
Can someone who knows more about the topic confirm if the name Faore really should refer to this island? 𐨬𐨌𐨯𐨂𐨡𐨅𐨬 (talk) 08:36, 2 November 2025 (UTC)
