[edit]Hey all! Just created an short article for this before — gasp — I realized that Fan edit already exists! I decided to redirect Fancam to Fan edit, but there's an argument to be made that Stan Twitter is a fitting redirect as well. I vote Fan edit personally! Thanks and sorry for the oversight.
Feedback from New Page Review process
[edit]I left the following feedback for the creator/future reviewers while reviewing this article: I saw a comment on the article talk page. This article is fine, but the topic overlap does need to be resolved.
No mention of K-pop?
[edit]The info on this page mostly discusses fan edits, but the fancam specifically has its origin in K-pop, and especially after TikTok came along, plus the rise of the Hallyu Wave, it started to be used outside of Korean media fandom. Here's an article that I think possibly could be used as a source: https://www.businessinsider.com/kpop-fancams-explained-stan-twitter-history-whitelivesmatter-police-app-2020-6 though this topic isn't super well documented, as with many fandom matters. I think emphasizing the K-pop angle does a lot to differentiate it from general fan edits, but if we have a dearth of good sources, the article might be best merged as a subheader of that page, I don't know. ~2026-19637-99 (talk) 16:56, 29 March 2026 (UTC)
- I agree with this for sure, also "fancam" in western spaces is a misattribution of a word utilized for K-pop artist focus fancams, which are very different from the vidding-like fan edits that this article refers to. The conflation of those two ideas is understandable but I think that an article on Fancams shouldn't ignore the origin. Namuwiki does a good job of definining and reviewing the history of the fancam, but in Korean, https://namu.wiki/w/%EC%A7%81%EC%BA%A0#s-8. Luveday (talk) 15:43, 27 May 2026 (UTC)
- i just added a fancam! Justdancefan156 (talk) 06:18, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
Isn't this the same thing as a vid?
[edit]Seems like this should just be part of the article on vidding. Thecianinator (talk) 13:49, 19 May 2026 (UTC)
