I have created this page, once directed to "exosome," both for historical reasons and because of ongoing developments in the EV field.

Among the reasons that "Extracellular vesicle should have a stand-alone article:

Most importantly, consensus in the field has emerged, reflected in position papers of the International Society for Extracellular Vesicles (ISEV) such as those referenced in the main article, along with many reviews and perspectives papers by others in the field. The "Minimal Information for Studies of EVs" (MISEV2018) was published in 2018 in the Journal of Extracellular Vesicles and laid out consensus positions with 382 co-authors, all active in the field and including many long-time leaders such as Graça Raposo, Phil Stahl, Clotilde Théry, Jan Lötvall, Andrew Hill, and many more

The term "extracellular vesicle" has primacy in the literature, preceding "exosome" (for example) by a decade

Other terms have been used for EV-unrelated biological entities (two others for "exosome," for example)

Terms such as ectosome, exosome, etc. have multiple overlapping or contradictory definitions

The consensus for use of "exosome" and "ectosome" refers to biogenesis pathways

Less important, but it appears that previous comments on the exosome talk page have alluded to a need for change

There is a need for many more references and some more information in this article. I hope we can also import some of the relevant information from "microvesicle" and "exosome" to enrich this article. I look forward to working with you on this! H2OBear (talk) 21:41, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

I don't think the citation bot will work here; inserting the template filling tool's text for each item separately is probably where it's at. If I get some time later today, I'll do a range of these. One manual alteration that is going to be necessary is cutting out all the co-authors and inserting "et al.", otherwise the reference section is going to be thrice the length of the article :p --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 14:58, 22 March 2019 (UTC)
