Source of External Gills

[edit]

Should there be a subsection in this article about how external gills came to be? Doing some research on the subject, it appears that external gills that are developed in the embryonic stage for amphibians like Necturus are developed due to hypoxic environments; perhaps this information is relevant to this page.
