Errors

This page contains numerous errors, particularly with regard to the damage caused in the city by the Exeter Blitz. Sidwell Street didn't have any medieval houses in 1942 as the area had been deliberately demolished during the English Civil War in the middle of the 17th century. The description of "medieval lath and plaster" housing is also suspect. Houses in medieval Exeter were almost all constructed either from stone or, more usually, solid timber framing with plaster in-fills. The 'lath and plaster' technique only emerged in the city at the end of the 17th century and into the 18th century. Gandy Street wasn't affected by the bombs at all, let alone "destroyed". St Stephen's Church and St Mary Arches Church weren't badly damaged (and subsequently repaired). They weren't "destroyed".
