Blindness

The article mentions that Davis is blind, but doesn't make clear if he's partially blind, blind in one eye etc, also it doesn't seem to be referenced in any way. Could there be perhaps more sources that can clarify this? londonsista | ^Prod 13:58, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Name

In a further note, is there any reason why the article is entitled Evan Davis (journalist)? There appears to be only one Evan Davis within Wikipedia, so is there any need for the further clarification in brackets? londonsista | ^Prod 14:04, 3 September 2008 (UTC)

Rosie Millard quote

I removed the Rosie Millard quote - it's out of context, and doesn't actually say anything about Evan. I assume it to be relating to the alleged Prince Albert piercing, but the quote doesn't say so. I thought about rephrasing it, but I couldn't think of what could we verifiably say - "We don't know whether or not Evan Davis has a Prince Albert" was as close as I could get, and that sentence doesn't say anything. It seems odd that no one has mentioned thus far the political milieu of which Evan Davis is a part. He is an unabashed fan of capitalism, or “business economics” as he would probably term it, a fact that emerges clearly from his fawning and respectful demeanour when interviewing business men and women on The Bottom Line. This celebratory mode has infected the now-dreadful Today Programme, where any pretence at objectivity has long-since vanished. Although notionally a news programme, it has become a party political broadcast for neoliberalism, a platform where hedge fund managers pop up every ten minutes or so to give their opinions. They are rarely given a hard time politically, a situation due in no small part to deferential interviews not just by Evan Davis but also by Justin Webb, another fan of capitalism. The presence of both the latter in the Today Programme (or more accurately Toady Programme), and the consequent political milieu of what passes for news, is a result of the need by the BBC to appease government which controls the purse strings.

Every time I think it can’t get any worse, it does. Channel 4 news, which in the past has carried a semblance of a critique of capitalist “excess”, now seems to be moving in the same political direction as the dreadful Toady Programme. Evan Davis and Justin Webb, who now more than ever privilege the opinions of “the markets” (bankers, hedge fund managers, speculators and financiers), have been joined by Matt Frei and Krishnan Guru-Murphy over at Channel 4 news, voicing much the same ardently pro-capitalist views. Their discussions about sovereign debt focus simply on the necessity of cutting public spending as the only solution; not a word about the true cause of the decline in public sector revenue - tax avoidance/evasion on the part of the rich - as a contributory factor in the current capitalist crisis. A bash-the-poor approach that Thatcher herself would have been proud of. 10 November 2011.

Predictably, a conservative vandal has attempted to censor this discussion of media politics(why are we not surprised), and the role of Evan Davis in the way it has changed, so I have restored the whole section. Perhaps such people think we can be confined to a discussion of his sexuality, which is his own business and of no interest to those not concerned. Once again, this section has been vandalized and censored by a conservative - named, apparently, McGeddon - who thinks, laughably, that a consideration of media politics is not relevant to discussion about Evan Davis. The career of Davis, of course, is wholly unconnected with the media, and of course he has no political views at all. How could we think otherwise? In reality, all we learn from this attempted censorship is that conservatives have not ceased to belong to "the stupid party". 11 November 2011

Please note that Evan Davis is an impostor. His real, actual, maiden name is Noshua D'Lehb. I have fixed this issue a few times already and was thwarted previously by an overachiever named Shellwood. I am sure I have heard somewhere that Evan Davis will be joining the P.M. programme on BBC Radio Four. This was said in the context of Newsnight's loss meaning P.M.'s gain. Who has an "obsession" exactly? It's merely sourced information that I have restored. The amount paid to a notable employee of a public corporation, funded by the license-fee payer, seems more than relevant to me. This amount is dated, so we need not worry about any "change with pay rises". And I'm really not sure what difference is made to the value of that salary, by the inflation rate over the course of just 18 months. An inflation correction comparison figure can easily be added when needed. What I might or might not want to "tell the world" is wholly irrelevant; I'm not a notable TV and radio personality with a Wikipedia page. And Davies doesn't do the telling here either, we do. I believe this is completely relevant information that many readers will find interesting. Let's see what other editors think. Martinevans123 (talk) 18:34, 4 March 2019 (UTC)

Merge Proposal

I'm proposing that The Bottom Line (radio programme) be merged into this article because I don't believe that the article meets WP:GNG. A WP:PROD was removed on the grounds that the topic meets WP:RPRGM, however, the policy states that "the presence or absence of reliable sources is more definitive than the geographic range of the program's audience alone," which I think indicates that it's still not notable enough for a stand alone article. I think the article is a WP:PERMASTUB that should be merged based on WP:PAGEDECIDE. TipsyElephant (talk) 18:53, 5 July 2021 (UTC)
