Are you sure that the name comes from spanish "escribir"? I think it is pretty arbitrary, it could as well come from latin "scrībō", italian "scrivere", or anything with "scr" in it. Cosmi (talk) 16:13, 18 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

There's no question in this case. See the link to "The Origin of 'Escribitionist'" in the sources, which has the actual post in which the word was first coined. While there are cognates in other Romance languages, this was specifically meant as "a Spanish/English half-pun." Shmuel (talk) 12:06, 10 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
