Updating and expanding
[edit]This article is good but currently needs some more information on other countries' escort fighter doctrine, also perhaps a list of escort fighters. Could also use expansion in the way of the service history and record of the aircraft mentioned when used in the escort role, specifically the Bf 110. Dubious explanation
[edit]The interwar period section says the fast bombers of the thirties could outpace the fighters of the time, but that "this situation only existed for a short period until more powerful aircraft engines emerged in the mid-1930s and once again a single-engine fighter could catch a twin-engine bomber".
This doesn’t altogether make sense; more powerful aero engines would benefit the fast bomber as much as the fighter, leading to the same disparity. Surely the advantage the fast bombers had over the fighters of the thirties is that fighter tactics emphasized agility over speed, leading to the persistence of biplane designs throughout the period; I suggest it was the advent of monoplane fighters and suitable tactics for them that ended the disparity.
