COI: Seeking Volunteers to Review Changes to and Update Article

[edit]

Hi,

I am the subject of this article and therefore have a conflict of interest. I’ve prepared a draft that better reflects my post-athletic career using independent sources. Would any uninvolved editors be willing to review and, if appropriate, incorporate some or all of it?

I apologize that I'm not sure how to make a sandbox of this specific article. I used the default sandbox in my profile User:Eamers24/sandbox. Will this work or do I need to provide my proposed article revision in a different way?

Thank you so much,

Erica McLain Eamers24 (talk) 15:18, 19 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Eamers24 Instead of proposing a wholesale rewrite, please use the edit request process(click for instructions) to propose smaller, incremental changes, one or two at a time. This will greatly improve the chances of volunteers wanting to invest their free time in reviewing the changes. I understand that you want the article as accurate as possible as quickly as possible, but that must give way to the volunteer nature of this project.
Please see WP:OWN and be aware that, as the subject you have no special rights to the article, and you cannot exclusively dictate what it says. The main purpose of a Wikipedia article is to summarize what independent reliable sources choose to say about the topic. That said, your input is welcome as an edit request. 331dot (talk) 15:47, 19 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Quite frankly- and not to diminish your accomplishments- this article has existed since 2008 and rarely edited in all this time. At the time, merely appearing in the Olympics or Worlds was sufficient to merit an article, but the criteria have tightened over the years, athletes are now treated as any other person, they must be shown to meet the special Wikipedia definition of a notable person, through significant coverage in independent reliable sources.
If you have such sources with coverage of you- that are not interviews with you- that go into detail about your subsequent business career, that might help. 331dot (talk) 15:56, 19 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Oh thank you so much. This is all very helpful and I will work on addressing your points. Eamers24 (talk) 16:17, 19 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Eamers24 Please read our current policy about biographies of living people. This makes it clear that we need inline citations for each fact. An example would be the statement Erica was the second winner of the ABC game show "The Hustler" broadcast on January 7, 2021. According to our manual of style, you should not be referred to as "Erica" but as "McLain" at that point in the article and I'll make that change in a moment.
