"The genetic code is the piano, the epigenetic code the tune." I dislike this usage. The Genetic code and the epigenetic code seem mutually entwined fairly strongly. A tune can be played on something other than the piano (or can be plaed on different pianos) - it can even be hummed. I'm inclined to agree with you; I feel the difference between the genetic and epigenetic code is superficial. If anything, the chemical machines by which both are manipulated should be considered the "piano" and the combination of genetic/epigenetic code should be the "tune". Your comment raises the interesting question of whether the genetic code could be played on another "instrument", so to speak...it'd be interesting if we were someday able to replay genetic code in a simulation or via a non-biological machine.
