Filmography

As I have said below. I would question the validity of sentences such as

A great number of films, particularly in the sexploitation genre and sometimes retroactively, included the name 'Emmanuelle' or its variants in their titles (at least in some of their releases) for exploitative reasons, although none of them had been legally or artistically related to the original series or its title character.

followed by a list of films released by Alain Siritzky, who certainly owned intellectual property rights to the Emmanuelle character. Both Alain's entry here and his IMDb entry go some way towards corroborating that.

I have spent a long time assuming good faith here, but if it's going to keep happening, I'm wondering if it's even worth attempting the correction. Even without a correct main article, the original Emmanuelle series is canon, as are the made-for-TV French series, Emmanuelle in Space, Emmanuelle 2000, Emmanuelle in Rio, Emmanuelle's Private Collection, Emmanuelle Through Time and the 2024 reboot.

Listing any of these films as unofficial isn't right. The confusion may come from the references to the Black Emanuelle series, which is very much unofficial and not part of the same canon.

If there are no objections to this, I will once again re-adjust the filmography according to what was released and when. If people are going to keep second-guessing me then I would question the validity of me making the effort to do so. Pookiyama (talk) 19:52, 31 August 2025 (UTC)

Incomplete Filmography

At some point in this article's history, the Filmography has been cut down extensively. The last version of the article with the full list of ASP-licensed Emmanuelle films was [this one], but most of that has been removed.

All right, nobody's replied to this. I'm going to assume good faith and that this was an honest mistake. I've restored the complete ASP filmography. Please let me know if you take issue with this.

Again, it appears that one or more films listed in the historical version of this page above, [this one] are missing from the current page. Remind me to come back and find when and why that was done. The particular film I noticed was a Gemser film called "Divine Emanuelle" or "Love Camp." It certainly qualifies for the list. Makes me wonder why it was removed and which others are also missing. An IP based user keeps removing content from the page, claiming that the films listed are not notable. I thought notability was a criteria for a topic having its own page. Information included in a page only needs a reliable citation. Maybe there are other reasons for information being removed from a page but lack of notability does not seem to be one of them.

The edits referring to lack of notability for films being included in the page have come from two or more IP addresses but it may be reasonable to assume they are from the same user. I did not see any similar edits from a named user. Maybe this user, or someone else can provide some other criteria for why certain films should not be mentioned on the page. All Emmanuelle films listed in the above historical version are canon as they were produced by ASP (Alain Siritzky's company). The Laura Gemser "Black Emanuelle" films (note the singular M in the title) are unofficial and, therefore, were in their own section.

There is, in fact, an explanation in Emmanuelle Through Time: Emmanuelle's Forbidden Pleasures as to how and why Emmanuelle changes appearance, nationality and location throughout the years (it's multiversal), so with that knowledge all the films beforehand genuinely are official.

I have no idea why IP users are removing either genuine entries in the series, and/or a fair amount of the Black Emmanuelle series, but it needs to stop. Maybe smeone should restore the complete filmography. If I can find sources, that may help, but whether people would believe me... Pookiyama (talk) 19:23, 18 May 2025 (UTC)

X-rating

I have removed the reference to the MPAA as the film was rated X (or equivalent) all over the world. The usage in the article made it sound as though the film makers did it deliberately so the MPAA would give it an X rating. This is of course not true, a French film maker would have little interest in what an American censor thought of his film. Mallanox 22:51, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

And I'm reverting it back. For one thing the X-rating was a major part of its North American publicity and and MPAA is the only body that ever gave out an X rating. The French never had one, nor did the Brits or the Canadians. 23skidoo 02:08, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

That is not correct, see article x-rated. Both the UK and France had an x-rating. To say that the film embraced the MPAA's x-rating suggests that they tried to get the MPAA to give it one. As stated before, a French film-maker wouldn't care a hang for the MPAA. Yes, they embraced the x-rating but not specifically that given out by the MPAA. Mallanox 00:05, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

The original books

I'm sure that the novels by Emmanuelle Arsan came before the films. There should be a disambiguation page to distinguish between these and the later films. The books are better btw. SmokeyTheCat 15:35, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Also, do we have a citation for Rollet-Andriane's husband being the actual author of the books? That should certainly go into any article about them. Audiosqueegee 22:29, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Reference added. Actually, this is quite unclear, but it has been widely reported that the actual "Emmanuelle Arsan" was, either Louis-Jacques Rollet-Andriane, or possibly both spouses. Wedineinheck (talk) 22:04, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

Links wrong

All of the movie links in the filmography lead to Emmanuelle in space.

Also, the first footnote (supporting the claim that the film has over 300 million viewers to date) refers to a documentary film. A link to a clip is included under References, but the link is no longer active.

This leads to three questions -- are documentary films approved sources of information? And if the link is no longer valid, should it be included in Reference #1? Should Reference #1 even exist?

Plot?

Error re: hardcore

This article erroneously states that none of the hardcore sequences filmed for later films made it into any released versions. In the early 1990s I rented Emmanuelle 6 in Canada and it was a hardcore version. The scene involving Christele Merault included penetration and closeups. Unfortunately I can't add this to the article because without some sort of source it'll just be removed. 68.146.41.232 (talk) 15:39, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
