- There's lots of coverage, even loads of photos of the man in the desert, but the whole thing seems incredibly fishy. As the article points out, he was only twenty miles from the nearest settlement, with food and water to last ten days. It would have been far simpler to just walk back. The existence of several photos of him supposedly building the bike also raises the question of who was holding the camera. - All of that coverage is based on Leray's personal story. Although the event supposedly occurred in 1993, there's no reference to it prior to 2007. We have a couple of photos of Leray and a bike that's been made from a car in a semi-arid area, so I suppose there is evidence that he or someone else made a car into a bike in an semi-arid area at some time.
- We don't have evidence about the time or place that he did this, or that he did it as a result of a vehicular breakdown, rather than for instance as a hobby. It is entirely possible all those details are an invention by Leray to add colour to a story, more than a decade after the bike was built.Ordinary Person (talk) 05:38, 16 May 2025 (UTC)
