Disambiguation

[edit]

There is a clear need for this page. Someone typing in ELO might want the band or the chess rating system. BlueValour 04:09, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Why on earth would they want the chess rating system? AmbigDexter 16:20, 22 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
The ELO rating sytem is of central importance in competitive chess and is also used in football. The object of DAB pages is to make things easier to find. Someone looking for the chess ELO is likely simply to enter ELO and, under your edit, would reach a dead-end at the band. This is a nonsense. BlueValour 01:07, 23 August 2006 (UTC)Reply
I think the solution is easy ELO goes to Electric Light Orchestra, while Elo goes to Elo rating system. All the rest can be done with a hatnote. SunCreator (talk)
I don't agree that that is a good solution, and even if it were, copying and pasting is not how to implement it. There does not appear to be any obvious primary topic for "Elo". Electric Light Orchestra is arguably the primary topic for "ELO", though differentiating based solely on capitalization is a little iffy. olderwiser 23:45, 7 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
Being precise about capitialisation with wikipedia is normal, not just in the article name but also section heading. Elo rating system gets more views then any of the alternatives. SunCreator (talk) 18:09, 30 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
Regardless of whether your argument has any merit, do not move pages by copying and pasting content. I for one disagree with you, this is not an uncontroversial move. Please follow the instructions at WP:RM and let a wider discussion and consensus determine whether the move is appropriate. olderwiser 19:38, 30 January 2010 (UTC)Reply
