[edit]I believe a couple of diagrams to go with this article would be very helpful for non physicists.
A 3d diagram showing the offset collision, beam direction, and transverse plane.
Another showing the collision in the transverse or perpendicular plane, pointing out an increased pressure gradient along the short axis of the elliptical or almond shaped collision overlap. Also shown where the azimuth is.
