George Grey connection?

[edit]

It is claimed here that Elizabeth Whately was the aunt of George Grey, who was tutored by Richard Whately. At present I can't see any family connection. Charles Matthews (talk) 05:49, 23 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

It doesn't seem to be clear through Grey's mother—just looked it up and her maiden name is Vignoles (added to his page). --Akhenaten0 (talk) 15:34, 23 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

William Pope died 1789

[edit]

According to the Sentimental Magazine for 1773, William Pope, Esq. of Hillingdon married Miss Mills, daughter of the Rev. Mills, vicar of Hillingdon. According to CCeD, the vicar to 1777 was Richard Mills. Mills is given as a graduate of Sidney Sussex , so that this would be "Mills, Richard (MLS707R)". A Cambridge Alumni Database. University of Cambridge.. The Universal Magazine has Pope of Hillingdon Parsonage.

Lysons gives a tomb in Hillingdon churchyard for William Pope Esq. who died 1789. He also gives (in 1800) the information that the Popes succeeded the Harringtons in the rectorial estate of Hillingdon, and that the current occupier is William Pope, Esq.
