In French it is quite common to make accents invisible when in uppercase. However, Elizabeth, needs an acute accent to be correct in French. The reason that accents are often invisible in uppercase, is that old typewriters could not do this, although your were supposed to add the accents by hand. I'm aware of some sources omitting accents on caps, but there are plenty of sources that use it for other French people, e.g. the BnF for Édith Piaf. As her website uses the spelling "ACTUALITÉS" on the front page, I assume that omitting the accent on her first name is intentional. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 13:07, 16 September 2017 (UTC)Reply
This made me curious, so I checked out on l’Académie française, who is the authority on the French language. They have a small article banning the practice of omitting accents in uppercase (majuscule). So if you are very strictly following the rules, accents must never be dropped in uppercase.
