If anyone can add to or suggest improvements to this article, please do so. I have rated it as High Importance because Elizabeth Hawes was virtually the first famous (at least in her day) American couturier/high fashion designer, and if that isn't noteworthy/high importance, what is? Obviously I'm not counting Mainbocher, as he was based in Paris and is therefore considered a Paris designer, even though he was American. I do want to get hold of the Radical Design book to double-check some of the details from Hawes' autobiography and make sure that the few references I've seen cited to it are accurate, and also back up some of the material from Hawes' autobiog.
