[edit]This account (85.148.67.160) is doing repetitive sabotage. --Ghabila (talk) 08:44, 29 October 2019 (UTC)

Summary section consists of advertisment
[edit]Mentioning "five-star resort complex of Mazagan" in the first section looks like an advertisment activity, not a summary of important infos about the city. This should be deleted, or at least moved to the body of the article (it's not there, why?). Jurand~plwiki (talk) 07:49, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- Indeed, it may be a sincere description of major businesses in the city, and I'm sure it's true that it's a holiday town for Moroccans, but it reads like a tourism ad and it's unsourced, so not for Wikipedia. I've removed that whole stretch for now. It's hard to find sources online that aren't just commercial websites, but there's surely some reliable sources we can cite about the city's economy. R Prazeres (talk) 08:12, 6 January 2023 (UTC)
- Follow-up: after a quick search I found a reasonably reliable source with some relevant information here (p.128 and after). It also mentions the 2009 opening of a "Mazagan Beach Resort" (presumably the "five-star resort complex of Mazagan" the lead text referred to), but as it turns out this resort is located next to Azemmour (a nearby city), rather than actually in El Jadida, so not sure that it really needs mentioning here in place of other local businesses, but maybe relevant in the long term with a more developped section on economy/tourism. Readability
[edit]@Lankdadank do you not think that the readability suffers when you mix Arabic scripture in the middle of text? Bananakingler (talk) 16:11, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- Please, you don't have to turn every revert into a dispute. I disagree that it becomes more readable when placed in notes, I think it becomes slightly less readable even. lankdadank (chat) 16:20, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- That’s a weird take. I think the readability suffers a lot when you place it in the middle of a sentence. Bananakingler (talk) 16:23, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- Well, you didn't even take the time to properly implement it. There were random parentheses and commas. But that's besides the point, I feel like you are overusing notes, it really should not be used as commonly as you think. lankdadank (chat) 16:25, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- Okay?
- I still believe the readability really suffers from Arabic scripture in the middle of a sentence. Do you have a better idea than using notes? Bananakingler (talk) 16:27, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- Leave it as is, there is absolutely no issue with readability. lankdadank (chat) 16:30, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- So you wanna tell me that :
- Leave it as is, there is absolutely no issue with readability. lankdadank (chat) 16:30, 12 May 2026 (UTC)

- “El Jadida's other names and nicknames in other languages were: Cap Soleis,[1] Portus Rutilis,[2]Rusibis,[2][3][4] Mazighen (Arabic: مازيغن),[5][6][7][8] al-Breyja (Arabic: البريجة),[2] Mazagão,[1][2] al-Mahdouma (Arabic: المهدومة)[1] and Mazagan.[1][2] The city was renamed al-Jadidain 1820, meaning 'The New'.[9]“
- reads just as well or even better than:
Bananakingler (talk) 16:33, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- This feels like a personal preference, not a clear policy-based improvement. Hiding the Arabic name in a footnote also reduces its visibility for no gain. If there were multiple languages or a long list of alternative names, I might agree. But here, the inline parentheses work perfectly well. lankdadank (chat) 16:45, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- I would not say perfectly well since it certainly does decrease the readability and disturb the flow of reading. Bananakingler (talk) 16:48, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- Using parentheses is just the standard:
- None of these articles use footnotes except for in the lede, it's just odd. lankdadank (chat) 16:50, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- Alright then. Valid point. Bananakingler (talk) 16:52, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- Glad we could sort it out. To be honest, this discussion probably wasn't necessary, sometimes it's better to WP:DROPTHESTICK, especially for such a minor change where another editor disagrees. No hard feelings though. lankdadank (chat) 16:56, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- I do believe it was necessary cause your initial point was not valid. It is in fact cluttered and the readability suffers. however when this way it’s the standard way of doing it on Wikipedia, it’s fine for me.
- There are other cases where it’s appropriate to drop the stick and I did drop the stick multiple times. Bananakingler (talk) 17:02, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- You're missing the point. This was a minor preference edit, not a policy issue. The discussion was unnecessary from the start, especially since the standard was on my side the whole time. When an editor disagrees on something this small, the right move is to just drop the stick. lankdadank (chat) 17:08, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- This isn't the first time either. I know you've spent a lot of your early editing days arguing (with certain users), but that's not the standard on Wikipedia. lankdadank (chat) 17:10, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- Well if you would have pointed in your edit summary towards the articles you just mentioned, I would agree that the discussion would have been unnecessary. However I do believe that it should be acceptable to question and challenge an editors edit when you disagree with them and their edit summary is not valid. Bananakingler (talk) 17:16, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
- You are still not getting my point, but I will drop the stick again and move on. lankdadank (chat) 17:20, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
