Connectionless?

The statement "From that point on, Vint and other DARPA scientists adopted Hendricks’ (sic) connectionless approach." is rather strange, given that the article does not describe a connectionless approach at all, much less one adopted by ARPA. Hello Shmuel. I understand that the "connectionless" concept refers to not requiring a continuous dedicated direct 1-to-1 connection (example: an old telephone connection) between the devices. Instead, the addressed message packets are sent out to the network as a whole, where a packet will circulate until it finds a device that corresponds to that address and accepts the packet. Arpanet required fixed connections through a central hub; VNet did not have a central controlling hub. HTTP and TCP/IP were arguably just codifying what already existed in VNet with some minor but valuable improvements. Thus the argument that RSCS and VNet were the basis for the Internet, and not Arpanet. "Connectionless" was a non-intuitive concept for computer scientists of the day, but Hendricks was neurodivergent and fortunately had genius insights. Local comments

I grew up in the same suburban area as Edson. I did meet him. I did not know him well. He was two years younger than I. I have very minor corrections. I will note them here but not make changes in the article itself.

This says Edson was born in Lemoyne PA. His family did live in Lemoyne at the time of his birth, but there was no hospital there and home births in middle class homes did not occur in those days. It is highly probable that he was born in one of the hospitals in nearby Harrisburg. Yes, I know I'm nit-picking.

Whoever entered the part about his schooling might have encountered some history that did not make sense. Choice of words suggests that he/she tried to finesse this with the chosen wording. Prior to the summer of 1959, West Shore School district included Lemoyne, Wormleysburg, Lower Alen Township and maybe other towns north along the Susquehanna River. At that time New Cumberland and four towns/townships south of New Cumberland in northern York County made up the New Cumberland Joint School district at the Junior and Senior High school age level. Elementary schools in those communities were not part of that combination. When Cedar Cliff High School opened in 1959 to grades 10, 11, and 12, it served both the area of the (former) West Shore School District and the New Cumberland Joint School District. So Technically Edson did not go through all of his schooling in the same distrct. His family did not move. The makeup of the surrounding School districts moved. Strangely, the mailing address of Cedar Cliff High school was a Camp Hill address, but the school was in Lower Allen Township, long a part of the original West Shore School district. Camp Hill had its own -- separate -- high school and still does.

Coincidentally, Edson's father was the Principal of West Shore High School prior to the opening of Cedar Cliff.

If anyone wants to verify the accuracy of what I wrote here, contact the current principal of Cedar Cliff HIgh School. He is proud of Edson as a Cedar Cliff Alumnus and I believe a personal friend, although Edson was much older.
