GNU/Linux?

In an article where a GNU product is being discussed, it's sad to see that the operating system is being referred to as Linux instead of GNU/Linux. Please give credit to the FSF where credit is due. Linux is just the kernel, not the operating system. Sandy2712 (talk) 09:20, 31 March 2021 (UTC)

See MOS:LINUX. Linux is the name of the operating system and is also the name of the Kernel per overwhelming usage in the English language. GNU/Linux is not the commonly accepted term for Linux and is not used on Wikipedia except where it's part of the distro's name such as Parabola GNU/Linux. - Aoidh (talk) 18:54, 9 April 2021 (UTC)

Vi benefits

-Vi utility: Vi is useful for raw to the metal editing on small devices with minimal power. It appears Emacs is a larger system possibly not applicable to low level device editing.

I am not sure if the article is talking about GNU Emacs or the original Emacs, but I don't think this a valid point anymore because GNU Emacs (the most widely used version of Emacs) is distributed gratis on the net. Tusharhero (talk) 08:56, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

The original Emacs was TECO macros. The commercial (non-free-licensed) version was Unipress Gosling Emacs, now defunct... AnonMoos (talk) 02:56, 22 January 2024 (UTC)

Google Vi/Emacs Easter Egg

Google has recently changed the editor easter egg. Now when you search the term "vi", there is no longer a suggestion for emacs. They've changed it so now it suggests vim when searching for emacs and vice versa. Gcc2 (talk) 01:51, 20 February 2025 (UTC)
