Bomb shelter

The FDR bomb shelter was below the Treasury Building across the street from the East Wing, reached via a tunnel under 15th St. The East Wing Shelter was built during the Truman administration as part of the full White House reconstruction. Size of original building in 1902

In the article it says the east wing was "built in 1902, significantly expanded in 1942", however this is unsourced and I can't find any record of the square footage of the original building before it was remodeled. It would be a great help to me for a project I'm doing if anyone could find out how large the first version of the east wing was. WikiWynter (talk) 10:29, 12 February 2026 (UTC)

Recent & repeated deletion of an image

An image of President Trump showing the Australian Prime Minister a model of the new East Wing/White House Ballroom complex on October 20, 2025, has been repeatedly removed over the past few days without any explanation. I had restored it with my edit summary always saying someting along the lines of the image was removed with no explanation. In my opinion the image of the model showing its display in the White House & the people in the photo is all pertinent to this article's subject & to the timeline of the planning, the demolition, etc. but let's discuss. - Shearonink (talk) 04:33, 1 March 2026 (UTC)

My best guess is the TAs object to new East Wing material being covered here. The rollout of this was a little uneven, so a temporary line was drawn to have the East Wind article stop at the historic East Wing and for the White House State Ballroom to pick up at the new East Wing.

To prognosticate: the WHSB page will eventually be re-titled something like Construction of the new East Wing, and the East Wing article will get the pertinent new East Wing info folded into it.

For now, to appease the edit-warring TAs, how do you feel about moving the picture to the WHSB article? Maybe to the design section? It could use a picture. And it would likely come back to this article at some point in the future anyway. Mikewem (talk) 05:01, 1 March 2026 (UTC)

I guess I'm ok with that. I mostly object to what basically appeared to be vandalism, the repeated removal + no explanation. I think it's possible they object to the political figures in the photo, Trump & the Australian PM. - Shearonink (talk) 06:48, 1 March 2026 (UTC)
