Change name?

[edit]

I think the name of this article should be changed to planetary orbits, as each of these orbits can also be in affect around any planet, except for Geostationary and Geosynchronous orbits. Even they can be done at another planet, it just doesn't make much sense to do so. Tuvas 23:05, 30 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

In general, I'd agree. However, most of the orbit articles linked from here are specific for Earth. See Areosynchronous orbit/Areostationary orbits. Perhaps there should be a more generic orbits article that discusses orbits in generic terms (e.g. circular and for specifc Earth orbits (i.e. GEO, GSO, LEO, MEO, HEO, etc.) There are equivalent orbtis for LEO, MEO, etc. around other planets, it is just that these particular articles are specific (altitude / period) for Earth. -Taka2007 14:31, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Consistent entries & port satellite orbits

[edit]

We need to make sure that we're consistent with our orbit descriptions. For example, only some of the orbits listed here have one line descriptions. -Taka2007 14:41, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'd also argue that we need consolidate the orbit types in the satellite article. We're duplicating efforts, and the one-liners could potentially contradict between multiple articles. -Taka2007 14:41, 31 August 2006 (UTC)Reply

Redirection

[edit]

I recommend redirecting earth orbit to geocentric orbit as they are synonymous. I say we vote on this.

Redirect or disambiguation page?

[edit]

Should this be a redirect or a disambiguation page? The longstanding redirect target discusses several kinds of "Earth orbits", but I can see why a reader might search for this title when looking for information about the Earth's orbit around the sun. bd2412 T 17:14, 30 June 2014 (UTC)Reply
