Notes

[edit]

Following from a discussion at WikiProject Podcasting:

Hey all, thanks for the interest in improving Ear Hustle! For background, I started the article before there was even a season 2. There hasn't been a ton of work done to it since then, with the exception of added episode tables. I haven't checked for new sources in a while, but here are some concrete things that could be improved, assuming there are reliable independent sources for them (i.e. media coverage, without relying on official sites or original research):

  • Summaries of each season beyond the first. How did the show change? Was there a focus for each season? This could be done in each season's section or altogether in the synopsis section. My preference would be to summarize them in prose in the synopsis section and then to combine all of the episodes into a single table rather than break out each one (I'm not quite sold on the need for the tables in general, but it seems like other people like them).
  • Reviews/reception from sometime after season 1.
  • It seems like Woods' commutation might be more at home apart from "background" since it happened he got involved. Were there other changes that happened as a result of the show? Maybe influence on other shows? Changes at San Quentin? I'm fishing a little bit -- it may be that there's no better place to put it after all.

Just some thoughts. I probably won't be watching closely, since I'm working on some non-wiki things these days, but feel free to ping. Rhododendrites talk \\ 22:10, 14 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Rhododendrites. I've taken it upon myself to update the episode tables for a while now. As you can see, they now comprise the overwhelming majority of the article. I'm wondering if it's getting out of hand now, and if the tables should be collapsed, split, or perhaps just deleted entirely. I haven't even started adding tables for Season 15, and I don't think the podcast will be ending anytime soon after that. What are your thoughts? Damien Linnane (talk) 13:26, 20 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
I've removed the episodes as per no objections. I've pasted them below just in case. I will note the article had a 'Convert to Episode table' tag on it before I removed the tables though. Damien Linnane (talk) 00:02, 17 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

References

[edit]

I was working through the references and cleaning up the reference list so it follows the recommended guidelines and I came across a citation from "Third Coast Festival" (Reference number 11 currently). The URL appears to no longer be live and I can't find any archived instances of the page.

When I first found the link it was written out with the word "episode" spelled "episide" like this: https://www.thirdcoastfestival.org/explore/feature/ear-hustle-episide-1-cellies After changing the URL so that the word "episode" is spelled episode I still can't find an archived page anywhere: https://www.thirdcoastfestival.org/explore/feature/ear-hustle-episode-1-cellies

Should the source be removed or is there another way of recovering the page?  Preceding unsigned comment added by TipsyElephant (talkcontribs) 20:24, 29 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

I just clicked on the first link you pasted above (with the typo in the url) and it works fine for me. Rhododendrites talk \\ 20:36, 29 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
Just in case there are some unstable refs here, I ran IABot to generate archives. Rhododendrites talk \\ 20:38, 29 August 2020 (UTC)Reply
I don't know what was going on because now when I click on it the URL works. Must have been my computer or my browser. TipsyElephant (talk) 01:29, 9 September 2020 (UTC)Reply

COI declaration

[edit]

I've been editing this article since before I had any financial connection with Ear Hustle. In 2021, I was hired to illustrate their book This Is Ear Hustle. I declared a COI there, though at the time the illustration contract was isolated to the book. Some time later I was hired to work on illustrations for the podcast itself. This work is infrequent but ongoing. It hasn't really occurred to me until now that I might have a COI, especially since almost all of my editing here is just factual updating of the episodes and seasons lists, which were started by someone else.
