The opening sentence needs some explanation for "Erolia". --Sarabseth (talk) 15:19, 21 April 2021 (UTC)
- It's a low-importance synonym that doesn't need to be included in the header paragraph; I've explained it a bit in the 'Taxonomy' section - MPF (talk) 22:44, 27 July 2024 (UTC)
Info Box images
[edit]There have been differing opinions about the main infobox image. The current image is the nominate species, if that is a significant factor. In my opinion, that image is of poor quality: Not sharp, riddled with heat distortion, and overexposed. The image that it replaced is a Quality Image better exposed, detailed, and taken at a better angle.
If anyone would like to chime in here or suggest images, that would be great. Here are the current and previous images. Hopefully, we can come to a consensus by month's end.

- I wouldn't call the current pic "poor quality", that term should be reserved for photos like File:Dunlin - Varanger - Norway 1 (15841191841).jpg. I also remain convinced that it is important if at all possible to have the nominate subspecies in the taxobox, to guard against taxonomic changes, and to show the (by nomenclatural definition) most representative example of the species. The Delaware Bay pic is of course already in the page; it would be good to get a photo of every subspecies (in a table, as at e.g. Western Yellow Wagtail), but Commons doesn't have any pics at all of some of the subspecies.
- Here are some other options of C. a. alpina; I'll look through for more too, including on iNaturalist - MPF (talk) 21:12, 10 September 2025 (UTC)
