Pantone 287

According to multiple sources on the WWW, Pantone 287 = rgb: 0 51 141; Duke Blue is actually Prussian Blue Tee Owe (talk) 22:54, 21 February 2010 (UTC)

Pantone -> hexadecimal are approximations.
The university has established that the web equivalent of Duke blue, in hex, is #001A57.

Normally, these approximations are "close enough". In this case, though, the OP has a point – PMS287 is different enough from #001A57 to warrant mention. Here's a selection of references:

Note in particular the discrepancies between the style guide and the color palette. The style guide says "The Duke logo blue Pantone color for Print is PMS 287. This same Duke blue for the web is #001A57." However, the color palette says #001A57 is PMS 288 (not 287), and that PMS 287 is #0736A4 (not #001A57).

Further discrepancies are found in The Origin of Duke Blue under "Technical details": "CMYK (100, 69, 0, 11.5)" converts to #0046E2 (HSL 221, 100, 89). "RGB 0, 0, 156" is #00009C (consistent with what Encycolorpedia calls "Duke blue"). "Hue=160 Saturation =240 Brightness=73" appears to be taken from the Windows color picker, incorrectly using the term "Brightness" for what is actually Luminance, and using the non-standard Windows ranges for the values (H=0–239, S=0–240, L=0–240 instead of H=0–359°, S/L=0–100%). Taking that into account results in HSL of (241, 100, 30), very close to the HSL for #00009C (240, 100, 31), and probably what they intended. However, even taking that into account, they've still specified two additional self-inconsistent values (#00009C and #0046E2) in addition to the supposed #001A57. Of course, the section starts with "Duke Blue is registered as number 287 in the Pantone® Color Matching System. Colors in the range of Pantone® numbers 283 to 289 are used for Duke Blue," adding 6 more Pantone colors and at least 42 more possible RGB simulations to the possible values. While there is clearly variance in how colors are represented in/on different physical media, the range being represented here seems unreasonably wide.
