Canadian vs. US spelling?

Grammar question! Would love if someone could clarify this for me for future edits.

I noticed that a user edited "In 2008, his firm was hired by the Kirkland Foundation to design a museum/convention centre in Union City, Tennessee." so that "center" uses the Canadian spelling -- but since the center is in Tennessee, shouldn't it be the US version?

Or do we default to the Canadian spelling since the subject is Canadian?

Since the subject of the article is Canadian and most of his work is in Canada, the article has strong ties to Canada, and therefore Canadian spelling is used. The phrase in question is "a convention centre", which is a common noun phrase, and the article's spelling convention is used. It doesn't matter that it's mentioned close to a mention of a US city. If a proper name had been used (hypothetically "Volunteer State Convention Center"), we would retain the US spelling. Indefatigable (talk) 23:25, 5 May 2025 (UTC)
