Start of term of office

[edit]

@Asdasdasdff Apoloies for asking such a minor question, especially if you do not know the answer either, but do you know when Drake is supposed to assume office. I have tried to look into any laws on the books and can't find anything. The legislature's website also still lists the seat as vacant, so is it tied to the legislature being in session? There's no law regulating it. The thing I would normally look for is the note in the Assembly journal when she resigns her Assembly seat -- this is usually done via a letter entered into the record from the member announcing their date of resignation. The date she gives for her Assembly resignation will likely be the date of her Senate swearing in. I personally think she may delay it to keep a little bit of buffer against a 2/3 majority in the Assembly, since Republicans would be I think 1 vote away if she resigned her Assembly seat. So she may not actually switch over until after the November election. But practically speaking it could really happen any time now. -- Asdasdasdff (talk) 03:28, 18 August 2024 (UTC)Reply
