Result of UFC 8 fight against Gary Goodridge

[edit]

According to the UFC's own record-keeping, Frye won by TKO, not submission. Goodridge tapped due to a barrage of ground-and-pound punches, which was fairly common in early MMA matches. Submitting due to strikes is considered a TKO since tapping out is only considered a submission if a submission hold is being applied, while tapping out due to accumulated damage from strikes is equivalent to the fighter (or their corner) throwing in the towel between rounds, which is considered a TKO.

I have attempted to correct this, but another user insists on reverting it, and right now I need some sort of community consensus in order to make the correction without being banned.

I don’t know why you’ve gone ahead and deleted an existing discussion and written over it instead of just adding a new topic, but anyways, when sources disagree on how a match ended, Wikipedia defers to high quality secondary sources. It is sourced in his mixed martial arts career section as a submission and Sherdog has it listed as such as well. GOAT Bones231012 (talk) 19:35, 7 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

I invite you to take a look at Wikipedia:Archiving (plain and simple) for an easy method to clean up properly! Regarding the disagreement itself, may I recommend you Wikipedia:Third opinion or another kind of Wikipedia:Dispute resolution if no other input is forthcoming? Japanese Pro Wrestling Career

[edit]

Frye made his living as a pro-wrestler in the years between his time in the UFC and Pride, yet there is almost no record of it on this page. Does anyone have wiki-worthy information about his time in NJPW? Austinmayor (talk) 22:36, 12 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

See Don Frye#Kickboxing record; that was kickboxing and doesn't count for his MMA record. --82.170.113.123 (talk) 10:12, 2 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
