Commencement of Service in RAF

This article dates his entry into the RAF as 1935, but another article, in August 2012 issue of Britain At War magazine, as one of those featured in a special 'Olympians at War', he is stated to have joined as an apprentice fitter after leaving school in 1925 (credibly, aged 16 that year), then later accepted for pilot training.
