Merge?
[edit]Is this just a subset of Robinson list? Maybe it should be merged. Paditor (talk) 09:58, 24 August 2024 (UTC)
Move discussion that might affect the title of this page
[edit]A move discussion at Talk:Robinson_list is happening at the same time as a discussion about whether to merge the two pages. Jruderman (talk) 04:20, 3 July 2026 (UTC)
Requested move 6 July 2026
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
The result of the move request was: Moot. This RM was opened after the AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Do not call list was begun. That discussion found consensus to merge the article into Robinson list. This discussion is, accordingly, moot. Interested editors are invited to join the rename discussion on that page. Do not call list → Do Not Call list – These lists are almost exclusively referred to as Do Not Call lists (for instance, Australia's Do Not Call Register, Canada's National Do Not Call List, Belgium's Do Not Call Me, Singapore's Do Not Call Registry, the United States's National Do Not Call Registry, etc.). None of these are capitalized as "Do not call" lists. GrinningIodize (talk) 21:14, 6 July 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. In solidarity, Destinyokhiria (talk / cont) 20:14, 13 July 2026 (UTC)
- Leaning against: The name of each particular list is capitalized since it is the name of a specific work, but the article describes a type of list rather than a specific list. That seems like it should be lowercased as a common noun. The words "Do Not Call" are included in the name of some of these lists, but not all of them, and in most cases, that is not the full name of the list. — BarrelProof (talk) 22:03, 6 July 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose: This is an article about such lists which includes a list of those lists. Each of those lists is a proper noun, but this title is not a proper noun. SchreiberBike | ⌨ 22:18, 6 July 2026 (UTC)
- No objection to Do-not-call list with the hyphens as explained below. SchreiberBike | ⌨ 19:25, 12 July 2026 (UTC)
- Oppose. Those names are capitalized because they're proper nouns, but this page is about the generic term. A Google ngram search suggests that lowercase is widely used, and there are lots of good examples of lowercase usage, e.g. this 2003 FTC report which consistently uses "do-not-call registry", Colorado Lawyer which uses "do-not-call registry" and "do-not-call list", and this report from Canada's House of Commons which uses "do not call list". Different reliable sources use lowercase or titlecase, but it's not capitalized in "a substantial majority", as required by MOS:CAPS. (Hyphenation, on the other hand, may be desirable.) pburka (talk) 22:20, 6 July 2026 (UTC)
- Move to Do-not-call list per above comment and Ngrams with hyphenated version added. More grammatically correct. Station1 (talk) 07:12, 11 July 2026 (UTC)
- Move to the alternative Do-not-call list per the above comments, and the fact that it's simply the grammatically correct form as far as I know. –Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 06:29, 12 July 2026 (UTC)
