Emery

The tomb of Djer (or Zer) was extensively excavated by the late professor WB Emery and published in his book "Archaic Egypt". Shouldn't there be some reference to this publication?AT Kunene (talk) 20:43, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Errors in Reign as Well as Family

Under the section Length of Reign, the following claim is made, 'Although the Egyptian priest Manetho, writing in the third century BC, stated that Djer ruled for 57 years, modern research by Toby Wilkinson in Royal Annals of Ancient Egypt stresses that the near-contemporary and therefore, more accurate Palermo Stone ascribes Djer a reign of "41 complete and partial years."'

This is in error because Djer is found in Manetho's first dynasty as Uenephes with a reign of 42 years, which can be considered to be the rounded value given on the Palermo Stone. The 57 years in Manetho was given to Atothes I, which Wikipedia's main Dynasty 1 article claims to have been Hor-Aha.

In the family section of this article, several family claims are made without citations to any original source. I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the relations written there currently are mere guesses, and there are no actual inscriptions naming them as immediate family members. Palermo stone doesn't say 41 and partial years

In fact, the Palermo stone doesn't say anything about the length of Djer's reign. The stone (based off this translation) only says that he rose to power 4 months and 13 days into the year. Could this be cleared up in the article? AzaiStats (talk) 16:33, 2 October 2025 (UTC)
