Modelling diffraction efficiency

It seems relevant to add some discussion, or at least a list, for methods of calculating diffraction efficiency: e.g.: scalar approaches via the Fraunhofer diffraction equation, or more rigorous vector-based approaches (that take into account polarization), such as RCWA, or solving the Helmholtz equation for a periodic boundary numerically via the integral method.
