Section needed on Day's campaign to end freeway metering

[edit]

During his tenure, Day used his political influence to accuse MnDOT of withholding data and information from Minnesotans, and refused to believe the data that told him that Minnesota's freeways worked better with freeway on-ramp metering. Despite all evidence, he pushed for a bill that shut down Minnesota's on-ramp meters for weeks, causing an uptick in car accidents and traffic. This is his lasting legacy as a lawmaker and is by far the most written about topic to include Day in scientific literature.
