Renaming of article

• While Stubble may be kind of general and could refer to other things (though it does not look like a disambig was needed), it commonly refers to beard stubble. Designer stubble on the other hand is too specific and would only refer to an intentional style and not to incidental growth. I would think Five o'clock shadow would be better but it might too American. Maybe beard stubble? -Lөvөl 19:27, 2 July 2013 (UTC)

I agree; "designer stubble" is way to specific. The majority of stubbled faces are not an intentional fashion statement. The term "5 o'clock shadow" derives from men whos facial hair grows so fast that stubble is inevitably showing by quitting time, no matter how carefully they shave. It was considered a disreputable look back then, and was often used as a device to show that a character was lazy, slovenly or dishonest in popular media like comics and film. Which has nothing to do with "designer stubble". The article and text focus on a very specific and modern part of the topic, totally ignoring the rest. Also doesn't make sense that 5 o'clock shadow redirects here while Five o'clock shadow redirects to Beard. .45Colt 19:58, 11 January 2016 (UTC)

Designer stubble != 5 o'clock shadow

" designer stubble,[3] which is also known as "five o'clock shadow".[4]" Designer stubble is deliberately-cultivated stubble. Five o'clock shadow is the (unwanted) stubble that a clean shave turns into late in the day. source [4] doesn't support the claim that they are the same thing. Agreed it takes a few days to a week to develop 'designer stubble' while five o'clock shadow can appear in hours. Designer stubble is a very short beard managed by trimming so it is typically 1-3mm long, 'shadow' is 0-0.5mm long. I feel a trim coming on - I'm channelling Magnum, P.I.... Wardog and Mandrel are correct but for some reason the article currently reads "...a five o'clock shadow, which is the longer and less groomed style seen when the stubble starts to become a full beard" which is complete nonsense -- the five o'clock shadow is the precursor to stubble. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 123.193.136.4 (talk) 04:23, 11 March 2021 (UTC)

Agreed. I've reworded and corrected, and added a different source. Five o'clock shadow links back here, but it really should have its own page as it's a distinct style (it's shorter than designer stubble in contrast to the previous claim). StuartH (talk) 12:26, 26 June 2021 (UTC)

Seriously.... 5 o'clock shadow is not (necessarily) the same as "designer stubble"....
