A descriptive statistic is a kind of summary statistic. But there are plenty of summary statistics that are inferential, not descriptive. An example from genetics is GWAS summary statistics. Inferential statistics are based on probability models, whose usual intent is to model a larger population. I suppose one could create a summary statistic article that is subdivided into inferential and descriptive sections. But I think the field of descriptive statistics is broad and deep enough that it warrants its own article. --{{u|Mark viking}} {Talk} 17:15, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
