Just to note that the wikipedia article for "density-dependent inhibition" has been subsumed into this article under the heading "Negative density-dependence." The examples given under "Negative density-dependence" were contributed by me, whereas the first section was taken from the "density-dependent inhibition" article ~~universalgaroid

Why does this article focus on macroparasites?

[edit]

In the ecology literature the concept of density dependence is applied way, way more widely than is apparent from this article. See for example this abstract in which density dependence is discussed in general, but no mention of macroparasites is made, and an example is mentioned based around red-backed shrikes which are not parasites. Also, this article, which states, "Density dependence is a fundamental ecological process. In particular, animal habitat selection and social behavior often affect fitness in a density-dependent manner." Again, not at all specific to parasites. As far as I know it describes anything in population dynamics that varies with population density in a given environment. Unless there's something I'm missing, the scope of the article seems arbitrary. 🍉◜⠢◞ↂ🄜𝚎sₒᶜa𝚛🅟ම𛱘‎🥑《 𔑪‎talk〗⇤ 00:20, 24 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
