ecdysiast

[edit]
After her film and television career began to wane, Darcel, aged 41, became an ecdysiast (stripper)

Jesus christ, just say "stripper". --Ultra Megatron (talk) 01:51, 26 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Possible ERROR

[edit]

Possible error in “Personal life” section: The article states that Denise Darcel appeared on the cover of Life magazine (or inside the magazine with Eckstine), but I cannot find any evidence of this.

I checked the Life magazine archive and did not find her on any cover or in any issue. Can someone verify this claim or provide a reliable source?

Denise Darcel was photographed for LIFE—notably in a 1952 Las Vegas performance shoot by photographer Loomis Dean. These were inside-photo features, not covers.

Billy Eckstine and Denise Darcel did date briefly in the early 1950s (reported in gossip columns of the era). Eckstine’s career setback was caused by the LIFE photo incident — but that photo did not involve Darcel. The image showed Eckstine being embraced by an enthusiastic white female fan, and it sparked a racist backlash that harmed his career, but the fan was not Denise Darcel. ~2026-24241-69 (talk) 02:46, 20 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
